SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) and BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound) are composite materials based on a thermosetting resin, filler and glass fiber reinforcement. The type of resin used is generally unsaturated polyester or vinylester. Other components such as thermoplastic additives, catalysts, inhibitors, mould releasers, thickeners and pigments are also used to improve their characteristics and facilitate transformation or moulding processes. SMC not only features excellent mechanical, electrical, and fire resistance properties but also provides a " Class A " surface finish.
